Spirituality in Social Work Practice 3 CEUS General – VIRTUAL

It may be easy for psychotherapists to overlook or avoid addressing our clients’ spirituality and religion in psychotherapy. Such issues may not have been addressed in our training and thus may not be seen as relevant to our clinical work with clients. After all, we are mental health professionals, not members of the clergy. This presentation will review research on an area that we often neglect. The spiritual self and spiritual needs of our clients. This presentation is for three clinical ceus and centers on Direct Practice.

Objective:
  • In this workshop, references will be made largely to the integration of religion and spirituality, with some assessment approaches geared to understanding the meaning and importance of client’s faith.
  • Participants will leave with a better understanding of the difference and similarity between religion and spirituality.
  • Attendees will learn to identify ways that one can engage and assess the needs of individual clients with sensitivity and respect for their concept of a higher power.
  • Participants will engage in a discussion on two case samples/vignettes and learn to identify what may be unknown about the client, resulting in possibly two interventions in the same client.
  • Attendees will discover the need for further academia training in the MSW program in integrating spirituality in social work practice.
