This workshop will enhance the participants understanding and consciousness of how their unconscious Eurocentric Western Worldview may not be used across cultures, and the need to infuse the Afrocentric paradigm with traditional models of social work practice when working with people of color. This presentation calls for social work practitioners and scholars to engage in increased discussions and the literature to advance the Afrocentric model and to integrate the paradigm in working with people of African descent.
Learning Objectives:
- To enlighten participants to research, implement and advance the Africentric paradigm when working with individuals of African ancestry.
- Provide theoretical orientation and application of African Centered Social Work Practice
- Provide examples of cross-system, state and country, and other collaborations that aim to promote self-determination and liberation of people of African decent through out the Diaspora.
- To discuss practice models that can be replicated in the Black Community to further enhance the quality of life for our communities.
- Participants will explore considerations of modifying traditional mental health treatments to match clients’ Cultural contexts.
- Attendees will examine research on how to evaluate practice theories, examine weaknesses and strengths.
