Personality disorders are long-term mental health conditions characterized by rigid and maladaptive personality traits that interfere with relationships, work, and daily life. They often begin in late adolescence or early adulthood and may persist throughout life, though some traits can lessen with age. People with personality disorders may not recognize their behaviors as problematic, and distress often arises from the consequences of their actions rather than internal discomfort . Personality disorders are enduring patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that deviate from cultural norms, causing distress or impairing social and occupational functioning.

 

Learning Objectives:
  • Participants will enhance understanding of dianostic criteria for each personality disorder.
  • Review the literature on all three clusters and types (A-B-C).
  • Attendees will review and discuss the causes and risk factors belived to play a role in clients acquiring PD.
  • Discuss and increase competence on the syptoms and its impact.
  • Review recommended treatment models for PD.
  • Discuss the importance of a comprehensive psychosoical assessment capturing behaviors during adolescence and early adulthood.
