Event Description

This workshop aims to increase understanding of client engagement and how to work with difficult clients. We will also review the intervention process and become better familiar with the stages of intervention, tools utilized in developing rapport with clients, and techniques in building trust. This presentation will address the appropriateness of self-disclosure, types of clients, and practice intervention skills. Attendees will learn to establish mutuality – assuming a posture of confidence and professional competence, while at the same time conveying to the client that you are equal partners in the relationship and both responsible for what happens in treatment. This presentation is for three hours of clinical ceus and is appropriate for both undergraduate and advanced clinical practice.

 

Objective:
  • Increase their understanding of how to work with difficult clients
  • Know or familiarize themselves with the five stages of intervention
  • Be able to cite tools that they have found helpful in developing rapport with clients and discuss what the literature has to say
  • Learn ways to build trust with their clients
  • Address and know what is appropriate to self-disclose and what isn’t appropriate
  • Learn different types of clients and their behavior patterns
  • Role play and practice skills of intervention
