Andrew Wilson, a native of Shreveport LA has an undergraduate degree in General Studies from LSU and a master’s degree in social work from Grambling State University in 2004. He became licensed in clinical practice by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners and began private clinical practice in 2010.
Currently as the CEO of Social Work Professional Services LLC his agency is responsible for providing community-based behavioral health services, professional development services for individuals pursuing social work licensure, continuing education credits and test preparation for LMSW/LCSW Examination. Andrew has a history of providing contract work as a Clinical Manager with Mental Health Agencies where he supervised clinical staff, provided case management services and provided psychosocial educational training.
Prior to providing clinical service in the mental health sector, Andrew was employed with the Department of Children and Family Services for over twenty years as an Investigator, Family Services Specialist, Specialized Foster Care Unit, FC Supervisor , Regional Program Specialist and Continuous Quality Improvement Manager where he monitored child welfare staff practices ,making sure field staff were utilizing best practices. He was responsible for training staff on implementing evidenced based child welfare initiatives. Prior to practicing child welfare in Shreveport, he also worked in Home Development in New York City.
Andrew is known to be deeply connected to the community he serves and has been awarded several accolades and acknowledgments for his service over the years. He has received several awards by the National Association of Black Social Workers, National Association of Social Workers and Alpha Kappa Alpha Volunteer Service Award. Presently he serves as the President Emeritus of the Association of Black Social Workers Shreveport Region and member of a Rules Committee and Inter-Organization Committee of the LABSWE. He is a former Board member of CASA, League of Women Voters, Hope for the Homeless and The Advisory Board for Grambling State University School of Social Work. He is passionate about enhancing emerging practitioners professional development allowing them field placement at his practice. He is known for , social advocacy , mentoring others in social work and staying abreast of research to enhance the human condition. He enjoys traveling to Africa and and studying African Centered Practice Theories.
The African Zulu phrase “Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu,” which means “a person is a person through other persons,” highlights the interconnectedness and interdependence of all human beings, emphasizing the significance of social relationships and community bonds.
